March 3 – Matthew 28:20

“..and surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 28:20b

I remember my first job, working at a go-kart park. I was young, didn’t have a mechanical bone in my body, and really felt lost all the time. Whenever the boss would send me to the garage to do some sort of work on the go-karts, I felt lost. Though I knew the mission, I was always really hoping the boss would be there with me. Anytime he was with me, he showed me how to do the job. But when I found myself alone, it was not a great experience!

As followers of Jesus, we have been sent by Him on an incredible mission to show this world what He is like. And with this commissioning comes an incredible promise. We will not be alone. Jesus will be with us! When He says, ‘surely I am with you always’, that word ‘always’ is an expression that means, ‘the whole of every day.’ Not just here and there, not just sometimes, but He is with us the whole of every day. His constant presence in our lives is protection because we are never out of His view. His constant presence is power, because we are filled with His very Spirit, the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead. And His presence in our lives is peace, because we can rest in the promise that we belong to Him. Church family, He is with us to the very end. So, let’s live in that promise and remember His presence the whole of every day.
